I woke up this morning at about 5am after finishing a 8 hour shift last night at 9.15pm. Yep! I got a job!! My first pay in 3 months was Friday just been!
The reason I woke up so early was that I was dreaming I was in a car with my mum, we had moved back to Australia after only a few months. In my dream I got to see my friends from the gym and they were all doing so well, they were super happy! But in my dream I was telling mum how much I regretted coming home early.
Luckily I woke up and it was just a dream because I really don’t feel anywhere near coming home….
I think maybe what triggered this dream was that last night before going to sleep , Jesse and I were talking about how much we have going on at the moment.

I am volunteering at a yoga studio every Sunday morning at the desk. I really enjoy it, I love my Sunday morning walk to the studio along the lake. I stop for coffee along the way and every so often I let the girls working there talk me into buying one of the freshly baked scones they have nicely displayed on the counter. The yoga studio has the best view of the lake and it’s so peaceful inside. There is two of us working and normally il get a chance to do a Sunday morning class. Volunteering here also gives me the opportunity to do as many classes as I like throughout the week. It’s so nice doing the classes and I’m trying to learn how to “not think about anything” …….. sometimes I can do it for a few seconds but then notice I’m doing it and start thinking again haha.
Jesse and I are also volunteering at the desk at a Spin studio. It is the same concept at the yoga studio but a whole different vibe. It’s high energy, super sweaty and loud music. It’s so much fun riding the Spin classes , it’s kind of like a party on a bike. They really have built such a great community there and the energy is amazing! We both do two shorter shifts here a week and then book to ride other classes throughout the week when ever we get the chance!!!
Then of course we have our Crossfit memberships. The Crossfit gym we go to is just a 10 minute walk from our apartment. I love Crossfit, I just like that it’s always hard. I want to be good at it but then I also don’t make it a priority to practice. There is so many movements to master and at this stage of my life I will go about 3 times a week, just to do the class before heading across the road to get my favourite coffee in Kelowna. I think I will always want to do Crossfit because I really like the community no matter where in the world I am. At this stage I just want to do all the things, so I try tell myself going at least 3 times a week is still pretty good.
And now I have a Job! I work at a restaurant as a hostess. I take reservations, plan the sitting arrangements for the restaurant, seat people and try help tidy up the tables when I can. The restaurant has a patio on the lake and it looks so nice on a sunny day! The people are nice and I get to talk to people all afternoon. When I was looking for a job I didn’t really expect I would be working full time , 5 days a week……. and now I’m so busy!!!! I’m lucky everything I do is a 10-20min walk away so I don’t really have much travel time in my day.

I want to be doing everything I’m doing at this stage, I’m not in the position that it’s a must for me to be working full time right now so I just hope I don’t let it make me miss out on any fun stuff I want to be doing. It is still cold here in Kelowna so I’m hoping working the hours now will just give me the freedom to take extra days/ weeks off over the next couple of years while it is still a choice.
The wage in Canada in pretty low compared to Australia but I think the lifestyle is great. If you decide to do the working visa I would recommend saving as much as possible so you can have the freedom to do the extra activities you would like to be doing too!
oh and Jesse has a job too! He works at a hardware store, he signed up for part time but we both have a feeling the hours are going to creep up to full time. He has also been helping our landlord with handy man duties around the complex. So we both have all the things going on!!!!!
We have still been getting out to the bars, cafes , hiking and just hanging out. I think the joy of living in a small place (compared to Brisbane not Motueka haha) is that it’s so easy to fit more into a day because everything is so close!!
